Sopris Lumbar Saddle
with Quick Draw Cinches
The Sopris Lumbar Saddle consists of two nylon fabric (1680 denier) cylinders that are held together with three bands of 3”-wide webbing. These cylinders are lined on the inside with 5/8”-thick closed-cell foam. A firm 3”-diameter foam cylinder (with a semi-flexible slat in its middle) is inserted into the fabric creating a semi-flexible, super lightweight structure. When the cinches are tightened and weight is added, the saddle conforms to the animal’s back muscles, creating comfort in fit and stability under load. A 5/8”-thick closed-cell foam pad enclosed in the fabric is sewn separately to each cylinder. The Sopris Split Pad concept ensures that no material touches the animal’s spine. It also allows body heat to vent.
An aluminum bar which distributes weight across the pannier attaches to hooks located on the saddle. This bar is held in place with the Pannier Bar Security Strap (located in the center of each cylinder between the hooks). The Pannier Bar Security Strap works in conjunction with two Pannier Stabilizing Straps (located toward the bottom center of each pannier) to keep the bar tight on the hooks and the panniers from flying up during jumps.
Recommended for llamas, large pack goats, mini-donkeys/mini-horses, donkeys, ponies, and animals of a similar size
It is important for the animal’s comfort that you be able to distinguish the front from the rear of the saddle: The cylinder draw string closures and pack string lead ring are at the saddle’s rear.
